Midnight in St Petersburgh   Snapshots from the former FSU, 1994.

The Former Soviet Union experienced enormous change in the 80’s and 90’s, but the West failed to grasp the full implications of perestroika on daily life.

This exhibition at the Watershed media centre in Bristol captured a moment in history. I made two trips to Russia in 1992 and 1993 to trace my family roots and produced an exhibiton of photographs which captured the lifestyle and attitudes of people I met. The pictures and anecdotal text [not shown here], show a different face of Russia, allowing us to see through the Intourist screen and the sensationalism of Western Media.
